Patrick Demarchelier is one of the world’s best known and most commissioned fashion-photographers. Since the late 1970s, he has shot the covers for nearly every major fashion magazine including American, British and Paris Vogue. He has also shot covers for Rolling Stone, Glamour, Life, Newsweek, Elle and Mademoiselle. His black and white portraits of, among others, Lady Diana, have become iconic in their modest yet sophisticated style.
As this show was a big undertaking for Fotografiska, one of our challenges was to create an exhibition-identity and campaign out of the ordinary – something that would attract the necessary attention. Our answer to this was a black and white, typography-based identity, set in the 1990s typeface Arcadia by Neville Brody. For the invitation, a big silk scarf was produced, a gentle nod towards Demarchelier’s world of high fashion. Fotografiska received a record-breaking number of visitors for the show’s opening.
