Patrick Demarchelier: Lumière

Fotografiska Stockholm

The story behind

The French photographer Patrick Demarchelier has worked with the very best. The list of brands he works with is more than impressing: Dior, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Chanel, Armani, Guerlain, Tommy Hilfiger, Yves Saint Laurent, Lacoste and Calvin Klein. A very important professional partner is the stylist and fashion legend Grace Coddington, Creative Editor At Large for American Vogue.

We made the graphics for his exhibition at Fotografiska Stockholm. We wanted to find an edge to the design and seized the moment to use one of our favourite fonts from the 1990s ”Arcadia” by Neville Brody. The font is reminiscent of more traditional fonts used in fashion editorials like Bodoni or Didot. We also used oversized Arcadia for the sections titles placing the type around corners. The exhibition title Lumière worked perfectly in 4645 pt Arcadia.

We made the invitation into a big silk scarf that was sent out in a box to an exclusive group of people. The scarf could be seen being worn at the opening night in the shape of headpieces but also like a dress. Patrick Demarchelier accompanied by Grace Coddington was present at the opening. A fantastic evening in the honour of the photographer himself.
